Thailand Pavilion Yeosu Korea 2012

Sawasdee Krab say hello to everyone, today I would like to present about The ThailandPavillion for Yeosu Expo 2012.
Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea is an International Exposition which opened May 12 2012 and will run until August 12, 2012. The theme of the Expo is “The Living Ocean and Coast” with subthemes of “Preservation and Sustainable Development of the Ocean and Coast,” “New Resources Technology,” and “Creative Marine Activities.” The organizers anticipate participation of more than 100 countries and international organizations, and 8 million visitors.

The Thailand Pavilion for Yeosu Expo 2012 feature a creative range of exhibits that come together under the theme

"Colors of Diversity: Capacity of Thailand"

Fascinating stories about the Thai seas will be conveyed to the Expo audience through design elements in graceful shapes of foamy surf and Siamese cultural identities. The upcoming world-class exposition, which is to be held in the city of Yeosu, South Korea, will be organized around the theme of The Living Ocean and Coast.

Overall Theme of Exhibits in Thailand Pavilion

1. From oversea to Thailand Overview

Three leading characters from the Thai classical epic Phra Aphai Manee -- Sud Sakhon, the Dragon-horse, and the Mermaid -- will be the pavilion’s genial hosts, taking Expo visitors on journeys through spectacular seascapes showcasing the richness of Thailand’s marine resources, and informing them of the development potential of
Thai seas for tourism, fishing and food supplies. Also to be highlighted are Thailand’s on-going efforts to conserve the seas and coastal ecology, based around the successful initiatives of Their Majesties the King and Queen. The exhibits will delight the international audience with their unique creative expressions and renderings; the unmistakable hallmarks of Thai artistry.

2. Hall1: The Secret of Nak-varinthu-sinsamuth
Experience the rich assets of Thailand’s seas in all their natural beauty and abundance; together with the most desirable coastal destinations. Visitors will enjoy Thailand’s captivating sea views, beaches of white sand and crystal-clear waters, and, for those sportingly inclined, refreshing dives into a magical under-water world to experience dazzling colors and awe-inspiring works of nature.

3. Hall2: Deep Journey to Diversity of the Sea
The last exhibit sums up the topics featured in the pavilion. Sustainability of the sea and how to maintain its natural beauty and bio-diversity amid the tides of global change, are the issues to be featured; together with highlights on measures for harnessing the sea’s potential in the development of tourism, fishing and food security -- initiatives of Their Majesties the King and Queen, Thailand’s role models for work in conserving marine resources and coastal ecology. Stories of the fruitful relations between Thailand and South Korea will be woven into the exhibit’s theme.

  • The Name:

The word Sut means “ultimate.” The word Sakon means “the sea or ocean”; so Sutsakon, the ultimate, boundless ocean.

  • His character:

Born on an island, Sutsakon is the child of Phra Aphaimani, the protagonist of the story, and the Mermaid. He was raised and taught by a hermit who gave him a magic staff. Blessed with a superior intellect and a kind heart, Sutsakon is a genial boy, always with a friendly smile on his face, exemplifying Thai readiness to extend sincere and gentle hospitality to visitors from foreign lands.

  • His magic staff:

When a magic spell is cast, the staff can transport Sutsakon and his passengers to any destination on the seas. For the Yeosu Expo, Sutsakon will employ his magic staff to take audiences on wondrous journeys to experience the beauty of Thai seas and coastal attractions.

  • The character:

A mythical creature having the features of a horse, but the horns and scales of a dragon. He is Sutsakon’s cheerful and loyal assistant, always eager to help out, and friendly to all.

  • The body parts:

Turquoise on Ma Nin Mangkon represents the color of the Andaman Sea, while other hues on the design are reminiscent of the colors of diverse marine species found in Thai waters.

  • The graphic elements on his body are simplifications of various traditional design motifs: for example, the swirls on the belly and eye-brows are derived from the ancient Thai depiction of the guardian demon “Yaksa”; the ear is a traditional Kanok motif; and the tail a pared-down form of the leaf-bud pattern.

Thailand Pavilion 2012 Theme Song

Go chasing the sun~ Lay down on the beach
Make everything easy~ Let's go Let's go

We're cruising on the beach, getaway. Stepping on the whitest sand, what a blessing
Face against the cool breeze. Laying on the sand, reach
Higher than the stars, the skies above. Underwater world that stays majestic
Waiting just for you to see

Come along, hand in hand to the Land of Smile
